Sixteen 03:23
Don't ask her now, she won't hear what you're saying She's too far gone, she's done listening She's a bull on the run through blood red streets Nostrils flaring and stamping her feet Sixteen and just like her mother With the weight of the world on her shoulders Sixteen and thinks her life is over Not yet a woman and definitely not a girl Don't chase her now, you won't catch up to her She's moving too fast, she's too far ahead Running scared, she'll fall down hard Keep the home fires burning until she gets tired Sixteen and just like her mother With the weight of the world on her shoulders Sixteen and thinks her life is over Not yet a woman and definitely not a girl Nobody said it would be easy But nobody said it would be this hard She's throwing punches every which way Everything is different, she's no longer omnipotent And nobody understands Sixteen and just like her mother With the weight of the world on her shoulders Sixteen and thinks her life is over Not yet a woman and definitely not a girl Hitting everyone she ever loved

He's a traveling man, he writes songs for a living Though he wouldn't put it that way, he gets by anyway He looks for an audience, a place to fit in In an industry just looking for the next big thing And so he leaves his only home Driving a car that's just on loan Just a guitar to call his own What will he have if he can't have it all? What will he have if he can't have it all? He says he's leaving, she says don't come back again Because I'm tired of saying goodbye, I'm giving up this time He says I'm sorry, she says I'm sorry too Because I know what you're searching for don't exist in this world And so he leaves his only home Driving a car that's just on loan Just a guitar to call his own And what will he have if he can't have it all? What will he have if he can't have it all? What will he have if he can't have it all? Twenty years later and still no record deal But he's still writing songs on that old guitar Every town a new line on his face Singing songs of leaving Singing songs of loneliness Singing songs of lost love What will he have if he can't have it all? What will he have if he can't have it all? What will he have if he can't have it all? What will he have if he can't have it all?

You and me ain't got nowhere to be So we'll just keep counting these sheep until we fall asleep You still don't know everything about me Every curve of my body or how I wrinkle the sheets And I still don't know you But I know that I want to All these things I can't explain But I know are true Every time I learn something new You know I'm not surprised, it just makes me love you Maybe one day we'll live in a boat on the Thames The shores will be our fences and things will make sense Your world and mine will intertwine You'll learn how to cry and I'll appreciate red wine And I still don't know you But I know that I want to All these things I can't explain But I know are true Every time I learn something new You know I'm not surprised, it just makes me love you And maybe we'll take a train down to France or Spain Sipping on Mohito's or grand Cafe Creme Maybe we'll never come home again You know you just never know what might happen And I still don't know you But I know that I want to All these things I can't explain But I know are true Every time I learn something new You know I'm not surprised, it just makes me love you

about

This EP was born after a falling tree branch caused a serious head injury and forced me to take a hiatus from music to focus on recovery. After a three year battle with Post-Concussive Syndrome, I am releasing a two-part EP this summer and fall of 2016 and this is the first installment. Counting Sheep was produced by myself and Mitch Girio (Emma-Lee’s Never Just a Dream) and supported by amazing guest musicians Gary Craig (Kathleen Edwards, Jann Arden), Christine Bougie (Justin Rutledge) and Bryden Baird (Feist). The cover of Counting Sheep is a tree branch, an ode to my ongoing fight to recover from my injuries and the power of music to get us through the hardest of times.
