He Don't Wanna Talk About It

from Fight Left In Me by Emma Cook

about

This is the story of a mother and her son who is struggling with addiction. Mental health and addiction are so debilitating to those with the illness as well as their families, and as a mother myself, it really hits home, that feeling of helplessness when all you want to do is ‘fix’ them and you can’t.

lyrics

Every day he’s waking up with his head all messed up
But he don’t want to talk about it
Lately he’s been running ‘round trying to find solid ground
But he don’t want to talk about it
Found a house and tried to make a home
But the wallpaper wouldn’t stick
Crashing bodies but he’s still all alone
And now the drugs won’t do the trick

He went down a winding road and
Always failed to put down roots
Where the flowers grow, the flowers grow
But he’s trudging through the deep deep snow
Not sure which way to go
To get back home, to get back home

And he’s been brought to his knees
Oh dragons nipping at his feet
Ooh

Tries her best to break his fall wondering why he doesn’t call
Yeah she just wants to talk about it
Don’t you talk to me like that I raised you, you little brat
She just wants to talk about it
Catapult to the fall
Gathers ammo for us all
And no one can tell him what to do
Grown man with something to prove

Oh and he’s been brought to his knees
Oh ooh dragons nipping at his feet
Oh ooh he’s been brought to his knees
Oh ooh dragons nipping at his feet
Oh Oh he’s been brought to his knees
Oh Oh
